A little background about grape vines:
During the first 2 years the vines will undergo radical pruning and training to ensure that we get uniform fruit development.
The 3rd year of growth will produce some grapes, but it is usually a very small harvest. This is also when the classic trellis training begins for the vine.
4th year vines will produce a harvest at about a 50% yield, but the rootstock is still growing and developing.
The full harvest potential of the vines will be achieved at 7-10 years of age and each vine can average around 25 pounds of grapes!
We are very excited about the delicious Sangiovese grapes that these vines will produce in the future.
Please stop by the winery anytime and come enjoy the view with a glass of wine!
Progress of our Wine Club Vineyard
Many of our Wine Club Member Sponsors attended the Planting Party despite not actually being able to plant their vines that day! Mother Nature released 6 inches of rain during the day and night before, making it unsuitable for the vines to be planted.
Welcome to farming!
After a couple days, the soil dried out enough for our crew here at Becker Vineyards to plant the grapes on April 20, 2015. The baby vines stick out of the ground very little. It's about as much as if you place your fist on top of the soil.
It didn't take long for the vines to take off. This picture is almost exactly one month after planting!
This picture was taken in July of 2016. What a difference a year makes! The vines are doing great. We hope to add an additional section to our Wine Club Vineyard in the Spring of 2017. Watch your email for updates!
January 2017... The vines are dormant. It is during this time period that we will prune the vines.
